Dar Hajra villa near Ronda, Andalucía

This unique holiday villa is hidden away in a pine forest just above the peaceful village of Montecorto, just to the west of Ronda. From the house's many terraces you're treated to a stunning view of the peaks of the Grazalema and Ronda National Parks. The villa is an ideal hideaway for a romantic holiday for two: many past guests have been honeymooning couples.

A Hidden Treasure...

You reach Dar Hajra, the village's highest house, via a track which arcs up through pine forest past a mountain spring. A path flanked by rosemary, lavendar and honeysuckle climbs to the villa's entrance. It looks traditional from the outside whilst its award-winning interior design is much more contemporary: High French windows draw the eye out across wooded valleys to the distant Ronda mountains. The villa has all you need for self-catering in style as well as optional in-house catering. The house has every mod con including wi-fi internet. music system with iPod docks, sat' tv and DVD player. There are few holiday homes in Andalucía that are so utterly sectacular as this...

The Sitting Room

The mountainside has been wrapped into the fabric of the villa with the rock strata add a spectacular decorative element: Dar Hajra means 'House of the Rocks'. A pyramidal atrium is the visual axis of this open-plan living space: sunlight floods in during the day and you look up to starry skies at night. Three drop-arch windows lead to the terrace with a gorgeous vista of the Ronda mounatins and an infinity edge plunge pool. Beyond the pool a path winds up to a high solarium terrace.

The Study

In the villa's south-facing study are hundreds of books including a number of walking guides written by Dar Hajra's owner. Along with dozens of novels you'll find a collection of books on Andalucía and, of course, Ronda. There's a massive collection of CDs (flamenco, blues, jazz, classical, world, folk, rock) as well as dozens of DVDs. There's a desktop iMac and you can hook up your laptop or ipad via fast wi-fi.

The Kitchen

The open-plan kitchen/diner is as spectacular as the rest of the house with black slate floors and the same stunning views of the Ronda mountains. You'll find all you need for self-catering in style: dishwasher, oven and grill, microwave, fridge freezer, juicer, kettle and coffee maker along with plenty of kitchen instrumentalia and good, sharp knives. The open-plan layout is conducive to really convivial self-catering. If you prefer to have a break from cooking, in-house catering is also available. And let us know a few days before your arrival and we'll arrange for a hamper of groceries to be awaiting on your arrival, made up according to your own requirements.

There are two bedrooms: the house can sleep 4 in comfort though we think it's best suited to couples searching for a really romantic hide-away. The master bedroom is on the lowest floor with a king-size double and walk-in wardrobe. The big picture window frames yet another stunning view of the Ronda Sierra. At the top of the house, reached by a staircase that winds up between rocks, is a second bedroom with access to a large roof terrace. It can be made up as a twin or double and normally serves as a second siesta room. Bedding, towels and mattresses are of the best quality.

The Bathroom

The villa's bathroom is a flight of fantasy with a huge tub sculpted between the rocks with an overhead shower rose. Run a bath, pour in the essential oils, light a candle: there's plenty of room for two. Most guests' reaction when they step in is a simple 'wow!'. Expect a heated towel rail, chunky bar of soap, candles and yet another gorgeous view, straight from your tub, of the distant Ronda mountains.

Daily help by a charming and discrete housekeeper is included in the rental price of the villa: Francisca comes in to clean and tidy late in the morning. She can also prepare delicious meals. We consider this to be one of many things that make a stay at the villa so unique, giving you a chance to experience Slow Food Andalucían style that uses locally-sourced produce.

If you prefer the house can be rented without daily home help.
