Activities around Ronda and Montecorto

The villas are at edge of the beautiful Grazalema Natural Park and  just a short drive from the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, to the east of Ronda. Guy Hunter-Watts, the villas' owner, leads guided walks in the area and is author of 'Walking in Andalucía', 'Coastal Walks of Andalucía' and  'The Andalucian Coast to Coast Walk'. You'll find masses of suggestions for walks in and around Grazalema along with maps and copies of Guy's books awaiting you at the villa.

A few kilometres west of Montecorto the village of Algodonales has become a centre for paragliding and is home to a number of paragliding schools including the very best school in the area, Flyspain. Click here for more information. Courses can be arranged for beginners as well as tandem flights. The flying here is amongst the most spectacular in Europe - you'll often have vultures and eagles for company - and one of the most popular take-off sites is just north of the village, close to the Roman theatre of Ronda la Vieja.

Horse riding

Horse trekking into the high sierra can be arranged at stables just a ten minute drive from the house. The riding trails in the Ronda mountains are amongst the most spectacular in Andalucía and suit both beginners and more experienced riders. Half day and full day rides can be arranged on well-mannered Andalucían thoroughbred horses with included picnic or venta-style lunches.

Bike hire can be easily arranged in Ronda and guided tours can be arranged departing from the villa. There are excellent cycle ways in the area including the Via Verde which runs along an abandoned railway line. Riding in the higher reaches of the Park is both tough and exhilarating, with a number of high passes of 1000m or more. Cycle Ronda is a highly reputed company based in Ronda with great bikes, itineraries and competitive rates.

Bird watching

The area around Grazalema and Ronda is a great place for orinithology, especially for spotting the larger raptors, like griffon vultures and eagles. Guided trips can be arranged in the Ronda and Grazalema mountains with an excellent English-speaking ornithologist, Peter Jones. Peter is one of Europe's most experienced ornithologists and a day spent in Peter's company (he can collect you from the villa) is a real birding treat.

Flamenco music & dance

There is a strong flamenco tradition in the area. The nearest traditional peña (flamenco club) is in Ronda and there are also shows of song and dance in the old town. During the summer months all of our local ferias have flamenco concerts as part of the celebrations. Ronda also has regular concerts of classical music as well as occasional operatic events in the Plaza de Toros.
